Islam is Boring. (?)

Islam is boring.

Now I can’t wear my favorite lace dress. I can’t even buy beautiful dresses at the mall. They are either too tight or too short.

I can’t go out with my male friends. We are just friends. What’s wrong with that? By the way, how am I supposed to find my soul mate without making lots of friends?

Chatting with friends are no longer fun. I mean the topic.

The television shows stories of good practicing Muslim look likes fools. They always are victims of kindness. Usually they die in the end.

Those sounds true.

For certain circumstances, yes, but no, it is not.

People say forget about the past. But they didn’t mentioned about analyzing the past. Looking back, the story of our lives since we were born is so amazingly beautiful. Unexpected events occur most of the times and it colors our magical journey likes the rainbow. Isn’t that a wonder why each of us have different stories that bring us to what we are now? Although sometimes we met someone with the same experiences as us, still we are different.

I was analyzing my past and had these questions, “Why am I here right now?”,     “What if all that events never happens?”, “What I always ask from Allah in my prayer all this time?”. Things never happen for no reason. When I waiting for the public transport, attending functions, shopping, I look around for something that I could learn. Never thought that the 17years old salesperson who help me wrapped my gift at the mall taught me earnestness by sharing her stories on why she was working and studying at the same time. And who thought that the guy who sat next to me when I was traveling by bus taught me of sacrifice. He became my friend after that and always reminded me as a Muslim. And the boy at the bookstore? He didn’t say a word to me,but his conversation with the mother surprised me.

Then, another series of events occurred. It made me think, “Why are these people can be so in love with Islam?”, “Why they choose to wear the long baggy garment with limited design and patterns?”. I pray 5 times a day, fasting during Ramadhan, pay zakat like all of them but why they are different? and I got another questions, “Do I believe in Allah?”, “Do I know Him?”.

Things are different now. I wasn’t say I am good. No, I’m not. I’m still learning. I have lots to learn. But, shopping is not the same as before. Beautiful clothes and heels never impressed me like it used to be. I don’t mind having only a few jilbab. Watching movies doesn’t really make my day. Listening to music via the walkman seldom happen nowadays. The definition of calm, peaceful, relaxing now is hard to be define. Learning about Islam is fun. To love Allah is enough for me. I don’t have to laugh to make myself happy. Ok, now, I have another question, “Was I happy when I laughed before?”

Why does the believer ask Allah for guidance during every prayer and at other times, while he is already properly guided?

If someone asks,”Why does the believer ask Allah for guidance every prayer and at other times, while he is already properly guided? Has he not already acquired guidance?”

The answer to these questions is that if it were not a fact that the believer needs to keep asking for guidance day and night, Allah would not have directed him to invoke Him to acquire the guidance. The servant needs Allah the Exalted every hour of his life to help him remain firm on the path of guidance and to make him even more firm and persistent on it. The servant does not have the power to benefit or harm himself, except by Allah’s permission. Therefore, Allah directed the servant to invoke Him constantly, so that He provides him with His aid and with firmness and success. Indeed, the happy person is he whom Allah guides to ask of Him. This is especially the case if a person urgently needs Allah’s help day or night. Allah said,

"O you who believe! Believe in Allah, and His Messenger (Muhammad s.a.w), and the Book (the Qur’an) which He has sent down to His Messenger, and the Scripture which He sent down to those before (him)" ~ An-Nisa’ 4:136

Therefore, in this Ayah Allah commanded the believers to believe, and this command is not redundant since what is sought here is firmness and continuity of performing the deeds that help one remain on the path of faith. Also, Allah commanded His believing servants to proclaim,

"Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from You. Truly, You are the Bestower." ~ Al-E-Imran 3:8
